odriThe 211th session of the Executive Board of UNESCO was held from 7 to 21 April 2021 in Paris, at UNESCO Headquarters. Ms Audrey Azoulay, the Director-General of UNESCO, addressed the Executive Board on 12 April 2021.


In her statement, she stressed the impact of COVID-19 on the global situation and, in particular, on inequality and vulnerability. She went to highlight some shared objectives and priorities and described the Organisation's plans for the future.

Among the shared objectives, Ms Audrey Azoulay mentioned ensuring quality and safe education; finding a sustainable way to interact with nature and living beings; eliminating divisions and tensions in societies to build peace; and ensuring that technological progress is shared by all, in accordance with universal ethical rules and in the service of all humankind.

She also mentioned the forthcoming 44th session of the World Heritage Committee to be held from 16-31 July 2021 in Fuzhou (China) in online format and spoke about the Global Education Ministers Conference on addressing and countering hate speech through education to be organized in Autumn 2021 with the participation of the UN Secretary-General and his Special Advisor on the Prevention of Genocide.
